Chipmunk

The name may have originally been spelled "chitmunk" (perhaps from a Native American word meaning "red squirrel"). However, the earliest form comes from the Oxford English Dictionary (in 1842) as "chipmonk".

Chipmunks in captivity are said to sleep for an average of about 15 hours a day.

Chipmunks and other small rodents have fast reaction time because they process light faster. They see the world in slow motion.

A chipmunk's cheeks can expand to three times the size of its head.

Alvin and the Chipmunks is an American animated music group, who are best known for “The Chipmunk Song,” which was the fastest selling single in the US in 1958. The group is made up of three animated chipmunks, Alvin, Simon and Theodore who sing and talk. They were named after Liberty Record's president Al Bennett, owner Si Warnoker and the engineer on duty when it was recorded, Ted Keep.
