Eyebrow

Eyebrows were designed to keep sweat and rain out of yours eyes. The arch keeps water dripping away.

In ancient Egypt, priests plucked every hair from their bodies, including their eyebrows and eyelashes.

From the 8th century, many Japanese noblewomen practiced hikimayu, shaving or plucking the eyebrow hair and painting smudge-like ones higher on the forehead.

Charlotte Brontë was the first person to use the term ‘raised eyebrow.’

The Mona Lisa has no eyebrows. They may have been lost in restoration.

The average lifespan of an eyebrow is four months, meaning the time it takes for each hair to fall out and new growth to fill in.


The glabella is the skin between the eyebrows and above the nose. The word is Latin for "smooth."

The Guinness world record for the longest eyebrow hair is held by a Chinese man named Zheng Shusen. When it was measured at a hospital in Menzhouli, Inner Mongolia, China in January his eyebrow hair stretched an incredible 7.5 inches (9.1 cm).

Albanian has 30 words for different kinds of eyebrows.
