Cupcake

The term ‘cupcake’ was originally used in the late 19th century for cakes made from ingredients measured by the cupful.

The earliest mention of a cup cake was in 1796 in American Cookery by Amelia Simmons.


The world’s most expensive cupcake costs £654. The Golden Phoenix created by a Dubai pastry chief is wrapped in 23 carats of edible gold.

The world record for cupcake eating stands at 72 in six minutes and was set by Patrick Bertoletti in 2012.

In September 2017 Cupcakes of Hope Cancer Foundation hosted a record-breaking fundraiser in Vereeniging, South Africa, by building the world's Tallest Tower of Cupcakes. Volunteers for the non-profit baking company built an enormous 10.77 metres (35 ft 4 in) tall structure, on to which they arranged 6,370 individual fairy cakes.

MI6 once hacked an Al-Qaeda website and replaced instructions on how to make a bomb with a cupcake recipe.
