Eating

On average, a person swallows 295 times while eating a meal.

An average American will eat 350 cows, 310 hogs, and 225 lambs in a lifetime.

Michel Lotito (June 15, 1950 – June 25, 2007) was a French entertainer, famous for deliberately consuming indigestible objects. Throughout his life he ate two beds, 18 bicycles, six chandeliers, a coffin (handles and all), a computer, a pair of skis, 15 supermarket trolleys, seven TV sets, and an airplane (Cessna 150) piece by piece.

New Year's Day is the worst possible time to start a new diet (if you live in the Northern hemisphere)—humans have an evolutionary urge to maintain their body fat during the winter.

It is estimated that approximately half of about 400,000 plant species on planet earth are edible, yet homo sapiens consume only about 200 plant species, because these are the simplest to domesticate

In German there are two verbs for eating, one exclusively for humans and one for animals. In fact, you can use the animal verb to imply (impolitely) that someone eats like an animal.

The Japanese phrase "kuchi sabishii" refers to when you're not hungry, but you eat because your mouth is lonely.
