For the broadcast by the BBC, The Radio Times printed a numbered map of the pitch so the commentator could describe where the ball was — hence the expression: 'And back to square one.'

The First Division match between Leicester City and Arsenal at Filbert Street on April 21, 1930 finished as a 6–6 draw, the highest scoring draw in the history of first class English football. On October 31, 2002 AS Adema beat SO I'Emyrne 149-0. The match between the two Antananarivo, Madagascar teams holds the world record for the highest scoreline in Association football. SO l'Emyrne intentionally lost the game against their arch-rivals AS Adema in protest over refereeing decisions that had gone against them during a four-team playoff tournament. This led them to scoring a torrent of own goals as a protest.
