Katy Perry

Katy Perry was born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson on October 25, 1984.

Both her parents are pastors and Katy grew up listening to gospel music - secular music was banned at home.

After just a few months of high school, Katy Perry completed her GED to pursue singing.

In 2001, she released a Christian album named after herself, Katy Hudson. It sold fewer than 200 copies when it was first released.

She changed her surname to "Perry," her mother Mary's maiden name, as to avoid confusion with the actress, Kate Hudson.

On  June 26, 2008, Billboard announced that Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" had officially become the 1,000th #1 US single of the Rock era.

Katy Perry is the only woman to have had five U.S. number ones from a single album, Teenage Dream (sharing the record with Michael Jackson’s Bad).

Perry loves cats and when she released her first fragrance in November 2010, she called it "Purr". The singer followed it up with a scent called "Miaow." Her third fragrance, "Killer Queen" was released in August 2013.

"Fruit Sister" is what people in China call Katy Perry.

Katy Perry has a scar on her left leg. She was spinning around in a hotel chair and hit a frameless mirror resulting in 17 stitches.

Perry's insurers ordered her to stop wearing a spinning ‘peppermint bra’ during her Teenage Dreams tour because of fears she’d injure her neck after her hair kept getting caught in it.

Katy Perry and Russell Brand began dating in September 2009 at the MTV Video Music Awards, which Brand was hosting. The couple married on October 23, 2010 during a traditional Hindu ceremony in Rajasthan, India.

Brand announced in late December 2011, that they were divorcing after 14 months of marriage.

Katy Perry (@katyperry) joined the Twitter social network in 2009. In November 2013, she became the person with the most followers on the social network.

In June 2016 Perry became the first person to pass the 90 million-follower mark, retaining her title as the social networks No. 1 most followed user.
